"Heroes": Second to last episode, it's all about "Truth and Consequences."

Picture
Due to the fact that, yes, I am still on Turkey Day vacation, we're going to keep this simple. This blog consists of questions we asked our TV screen during Monday night's "Heroes" episode, "Truth and Consequences."

We were chock full of 'em starting with…

Where the heck was Parkman? While the only way to handle the cast expansion this season was to feature some heroes in certain episodes and not others, it was strange not to see Matt.

Honestly, everyone else was in there, even Gleep and Gloop, and Micah and Niki's troublemaking idiot kin. We'd expect nothing less. This is the second to last episode of Volume Two. Depending on whether Monday's resumption of talks between reps from the WGA and the AMPTP means the strike may be nearing an end, next week's "Heroes" could be the last, so what gives?

Last week's final moments seemed to hint that Parkman was headed to find Victoria Pratt, and though we can't say that would have gone well, Parkman's brain poke would have been a preferable alternative to, well, what actually went down. More on that later.

Is Gloop really that dumb? Let's think about this now: You're on the lam with your brother, the only person who has proven trustworthy. You pick up a stranger on the side of the road after another stranger gives you a ride. The good samaritan giving you a ride disappears, but the other stranger tells you, "Hey, it's OK! I'm your pal!"

Your brother doesn't trust him.

You cross into a strange territory. Stranger is putting the moves on you and trying to tell you that your brother hates you. Suddenly, your brother disappears and stranger becomes alternately seductive and scary and busting out with, "Relax, guy! Take a load off! Look over there!" Most people would run, but not Gloop. Not with psycho Sylar, who really isn't going out of his way to put in his best Johnny Depp. Nope – creepy as he ever was, Sylar starts getting all touchy-feely with Maya. And guess what? She caves.

So after Gleep tries to take down Sylar to save his sister and gets stabbed to death for his efforts, Gloop locks lips with McScary and heads off to New York to meet up with the world's hottest and highly gullible geneticist. In the process, he also threatens cute lil Molly.

Which brings us to this next question:

Is Mohinder really that dumb? OK, so he wants to find a cure for the Shanti virus – that's strain 138 to you and me – but surely he must find something terribly wrong with kidnapping a teenage girl to do it.

Is it just me, or is his superpower extraordinary gullibility? Yikes.

Then again if Bob hadn't stolen Claire's blood, Mohinder wouldn't have been able to fortify his own antibodies to find a cure for Niki, or more to the point, make it up to H.R.G. for shooting and killing him by bringing him back to life with a super-infusion. Being the doof that he is, Mohinder then informs Noah that he's alive because of Claire's forced donation, which pretty much ensures that H.R.G. is going to find a way to make Suresh dine on his own buttcakes.

After that, Mohinder gets all huffy up with Bob and makes him swear, swear on his mother, to help him hunt down and destroy every strain of the Shanti virus. Bob, who will agree to cut off Little Bob if he thinks doing so will get a person to shut the heck up and do as he says, grimly nods.

Oh, Mohinder, I don't care which school gave you your Ph.D., but your School of Common Sense diploma obviously fell out of a box of Froot Loops.

Is Peter really that naive? I'm not going to say Peter's dumb because that would put him in the same category as Gloop and Mohinder, but gee. First he questions Victoria Pratt, the person who engineered strain 138 and is obviously in hiding, only to look on as Adam shoots her and, hmm, not have a problem with that. Then, once they get to Odessa, Texas -- where, thanks to Hiro's handy dandy and informational jump backward in time, we see the virus has been hidden -- Peter finds himself facing down ultimate good guy Hiro.

After hearing Victoria say Adam wanted to release the virus, and after hearing Hiro say that Adam killed his father, what does Peter do? Call the light show to his fingertips to protect Adam as Hiro charges. Has our favorite fake world gone insane?

Other Qs….

Why hasn't anybody locked Micah's little cousin in a basement? Hmm...he takes Micah's $600 mint condition comic and the only memento he has left of D.L., leading to his sister getting kidnapped by local criminals. Yep, he needs a little time out. It's not as if anyone would miss him. Throw the kid some bread and Kool Aid every few hours and call it good.

Why didn't Monica fight back when those thugs came back to home base and found her there, trying to retrieve Micah's backpack? OK, yeah, they had guns, and we're guessing she'll break out the Fist of Legend just in time to foil their arson gig (and for the finale), but c'mon. She watched Bruce do his thing and took in some wrestling footage. One flying kick would have been nice.

What good will it do for Claire to tell the world that she has regenerative ability? Um, wasn't this precisely what her dad didn't want?

And naturally, the big question:

Who's gonna die?

There were five faces shown in next week's teaser -- Hiro, Nathan, Parkman, Claire and Electric Elle – but I wouldn't put much stock in that. Networks love to throw us off the scent with those things. Besides, out of all those characters, the only one we could really see dying would be Elle. Somehow I doubt that'll happen -- it would be more fun to watch her turn against Bob.

Also, remember that the idea of a "fallen hero" doesn't necessarily mean death. One of those people might turn to the dark side. I'm just saying.

If you want to start a death pool, some candidates are more in danger than others:

The finger of death is upon Niki, who awaits Mohinder's cure for the virus in New Orleans but is obviously not as important to Mohinder as Molly, who is threatened by Sylar and Gloop. Mohinder may have some payback in mind for Sylar, but as we all know, he is a weakling. And gullible.

Niki's cause of death might be a fatal gunshot, since Micah is going to be forced to enlist her help to retrieve Auntie Monica. And if Micah's orphaned, that would make him the perfect sidekick to Auntie Monica/Saint Joan. The downside is that we like Niki a heckuva lot more than Monica.

Parkman might drop – Greg Grunberg would find another job lickety-split -- but we have a feeling his story's not done. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Matt "falls" in that other sense of the term … but who knows?

I'm hoping Gloop goes down, which would make sense if Sylar is due to make a comeback. We're done with whiny, weepy, wishy-washy Gloop. She would serve the story line's greater good if she joined Gleep anyway, because Sylar with the ability to weep death would be a terrible foe indeed.

And, of course, Mama Petrelli could buy it, which would join Nathan and Peter in a bloody vendetta against Adam.

What did you think of "Truth and Consequences"?

And, who do you think's going to bite it?

I definitely wanted to reach out and strangle Peter and Mohinder a lot of the time I was watching the episode. Part of it is that they are so emotionally driven right now. So they are doing what they think is right while really being stupid. Mohinder supposedly trying to save everyone and Peter trying to save Kaitlin.

Here is another question for you, if Hiro wants to keep Adam and Peter from getting the virus why doesn't he go back in time and get it? I guess he doesn't know where it is but he has all the time in the world to find it.

I'm not really sure who will die. I definitely hope Maya, I mean Gloop, dies. I'm tired of her. Her brother was the more interesting one, which isn't saying much. So if Sylar takes that blood intended for Niki, will it give him his powers back? Or does he have to reacquire the abilities. Like when you play video games and die, you have to reacquire prizes. Haha.

The thing with Parkman missing is why wasn' he watching Molly? I thought he was trying to find Victoria Pratt. I wouldn't have thought it would take him that long to find her. Especially with Molly around. He should have gotten there around the same time as Peter and Adam.

Here is a grand question, if Victoria knew that a shotgun blast to the head would kill Adam before why didn't she try it before now? I mean she had over 30 years to try.

So many questions, so little time.

why doesnt sylar kill maya now and take her power. and why didnt he take alajandros power when he killed him.
the plot doesnt seem to be moving anywhere, this season was crrap, most of teh characters are just wandering around randomly, trying to find random bits of information

Sylar is "broken", that is why he can't take Maya's or Alejandro's powers. He tried to take whats her name powers at the beginning of the season, but it did nothing. He doesn't have any powers right now. That is why he is trying to find Mohinder, so he could fix him up and then he would take her powers.

Um, the last episode for what - for this season, or for the series? Would hope it's just the former and not the latter - seems to be so much still unanswered. Again we get a glimpse into the history of The Company. Want to see more!

Right now Peter doesn't trust anyone with the Company. "Call Me Bob"'s handling of Peter's suddenly involuntary confinement made Adam's sugary jail cell talk through the air vent pallatable enough to be believed. The Company is evil, do anything to stop it. Plus Adam saved Nathan, so Peter feels a bit more indebted. Now Hiro shows up to stop them from doing what it takes to save Kaitlin. If Hiro's dad was Company, then Hiro is Company too - Peter probably doesn't know the connection or who Kaito Nakamura is, but has Adam already poisoned Peter against Hiro?

Now if Peter plucked "Odessa, Texas" from Victoria's head, why couldn't he get into Adam's head to learn "The Truth", whatever that may be? I'm sure after 400 years and running into all kinds of different powers, including Parkman Sr., Adam could resist such a probing or have a defense for it.

Time travel dilemma again - if Peter/Hiro/Mohinder manage to destroy the deadly Shanti virus and the 93% pandemic doesn't happen, then maybe Kaitlin never gets separated from Peter and sent back to Ireland... oo, makes my brain hurt, but see where I'm going? Prevent that timeline from happening, or put yourself into another timeline - then Kaitlin is lost in the timeline with the virus epidemic. Peter saves the world, loses Kaitlin. Or the universe explodes from the paradox... darn.

About Maya - as a guy I refuse to speculate about stupid female behavior when I have enough stupid male behavior of my own. I'll let you ladies run the intervention on this one. Except to say that I'm sorry to see Alejandro assume room temperature. I was expecting him to just kind of "disappear" mysteriously, then whenever Sylar is himself again and scalps Maya for the Black Death, Alejandro miraculously returns to stop him - something dramatic, good TV stuff. I guess his death takes the mystery out of it. (Or does it...?)

Not to say that Maya isn't the first "good girl" to take up with the "bad boy" against the advice of family. She's responsible for the deaths of a few dozen wedding guests and the bride, a few cops, human traffickers, and some Minutemen. Her only hope to stop herself is the magical Dr Suresh. Gabriel/Sylar is her angel (killing his own mom not withstanding), her only path to her salvation. Alejandro doesn't understand - he's not responsible for so many deaths.

Never got into Veronica Mars, but I like Kirsten Bell's portrayal of twisted minx Elle (gaga). Daddy's tongue lashing didn't help matters, so she's the new loose cannon on deck which could go either way - first guess is against Daddy and the Company, which gets her whacked in the end, perhaps in a self-sacrifice. Bummer...

Monica froze - beginner's bad luck. Maybe the video iPod didn't have examples of people dodging bullets. But if she climbed up to the attic, couldn't she have just climbed down once da boyz in da hood walked inside? I don't see them writing off St Joan yet, but yeah, Niki takes the bullet to save Micah on the rescue attempt.

Mohinder manages to think he is telling Bob what to do. But Bob is just coniving enough to put up the illusion of complicity, while still manipulating Mohinder to do what he wants, making Mohinder think it's all his own idea.

Besides, if everything made sense, it wouldn't be good TV and we'd have nothing to talk about...
