Residents of Gilman -- the name for Issaquah from the late 1880s until 1900 -- celebrated Independence Day on July 4, 1893.

A business district was taking shape between 1911-1915, when the photo above was taken looking north on Front Street. Now customers are drawn to Front Street -- home to a variety of interesting shops -- by the area's historic charm.
