Hood Canal boat launch closed for much of summer

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER
The boat launch at Twanoh State Park on southern Hood Canal is closed from today through Aug. 15 -- its busiest time of year -- for repairs and improvements. As many as 50 boaters a day -- crabbers, anglers, skiers -- use the ramp, which is being upgraded with a new concrete surface and finger piers to ease loading and unloading.
The work had to be done now to avoid disruption of salmon and smelt runs. Nearby ramps include those at Union and Potlatch, 10 to 15 miles west, but be careful since both are unuseable for all but smaller "car-topper" boats during low tides.
