Dorothy Haggen, 1909-2008: Founder of grocery store chain 'was a giving person'
Dorothy Haggen, a founder of the Bellingham-based Haggen chain of grocery stores, died Sunday of natural causes in Bellingham. She was 99.

Jeff Douthwaite, 1929-2008: Professor, sailor led 'lively legislative life'
Jeff Douthwaite, a former state representative from the 43rd District in Seattle known for his free spirit and independent streak, an avid outdoorsman and a sailor, an engineer and an author, died Sept. 17 in Seattle. He was 79.

George Tellevik, 1933-2008: Helping drivers was priority for former State Patrol chief
Retired Washington State Patrol Chief George Tellevik, who oversaw a massive expansion of the agency and worked to ensure that drivers in distress wouldn't wait long for help, died last weekend from pancreatic cancer. He was 74.
