The 1897 sailing schooner Wawona is shown in a turn-of-the-century photograph likely taken near Port Townsend. After service as a lumber schooner, a fishing schooner and a military barge during WWII, the Wawona was acquired by Northwest Seaport in 1963. She was the first ship to be listed on the National Register and became a national historic site in 1970. Efforts are under way to completely restore her Northwest Seaport
