Things to do while you're here

If you're visiting, check out these spots:

  • At U Brew Seattle, 8515 Greenwood Ave. N., you can select from more than 30 recipes to brew your own beer. You'll measure out the ingredients, grind your own grains, then mix, stir and boil. The brewing takes about two hours. Then you return two weeks later to bottle your beer. Create your own labels at home, or do it at U Brew. Call for a reservation, 206-782-ALES.

  • Go antiquing. There's an ever-growing number of antique and secondhand stores, selling furniture, collectibles, jewelry and much more. Most are along Greenwood Avenue North, but you'll find them elsewhere as well.

  • Top Ten Toys, 104 N. 85th St., has a terrific selection of children's items, from wooden blocks and puzzles to musical instruments and arts and crafts sets. 206-782-0098.

  • Mi Tiendita, or My Little Store, carries a wide selection of products from Latin American countries. Here you'll find everything from baked goods and pinatas to fancy Communion dresses. There are also Spanish-language greeting cards, magazines, videos and CDs. At 8558 Greenwood Ave. N., 206-789-3909.

  • Gorditos Healthy Mexican Food, 213 N. 85th St., 206-706-9352. This is a great spot for a satisfying and inexpensive meal. Whether you like your burritos mild or spicy, regular or "wet," it's hard to go wrong in this friendly haven.
