"In Old Kentucky" and "The Payoff" were playing at the Grand Theatre in March 1936. The theater, on 85th near Greenwood Avenue, became the home of Taproot Theatre after a renovation was completed in 1996.

Greenwood Elementary School has been a fixture in the community since it was built in 1905. The school, shown below shortly after it was built, lies a few blocks west of the commercial district, at the corner of Northwest 80th and Third Avenue Northwest.

In 1938, members of Greenwood Elementary School's safety patrol showed off rubber boots provided by dry cleaner Grover Matsuda. He made the donation in appreciation of the fine education his two grandsons were receiving in Seattle public schools.

In the early 1930s, "downtown" Greenwood was a thriving hub of activity. This photo shows Greenwood Avenue looking north across the intersection with 85th.
