Elected officials

City Council: 425-452-7810, fax 425-452-7919

Councilmembers are elected every two years for four-year, staggered terms. They elect a mayor and a mayor pro tempore from among their number to two-year terms. The mayor has no veto power over the council's decisions, but acts as its chairperson.

East Bellevue and Sammamish community councils were created when these two areas were annexed to Bellevue in 1969. The community councils have veto power over Bellevue City Council decisions relating to the Comprehensive Plan, the Land Use Code and certain other matters pertaining to land use within their jurisdictions. All community council meetings are public. Both councils meet in the Lake Hills Library. East Bellevue meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., Sammamish on the third Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The city manager is appointed by the City Council to head the administrative branch of city government. The city manager directs all city operations, projects and programs and administers all policies and laws adopted by the council.

Bellevue mini city hallsCrossroads Shopping Center Mini City Hall, 15600 N.E. Eighth, Suite F-12, Bellevue, WA 98008. Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Saturday. 425-452-2800, fax 425-452-2899.

Situated in Crossroads Shopping Center along the center aisle, the mini city hall provides a neighborhood-based service center, offering information and on-site services such as: information about community volunteer opportunities; links to programs targeting youth, senior citizens and other groups; a place to pay water/sewer utility and tax bills; employment information and job applications.

Bellevue Police Factoria Station and Mini City Hall, Factoria Square, 128th Avenue S.E. (Mailing address: 4098 Factoria Square Mall S.E., Bellevue, WA 98006-1242). Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Saturday.

In addition to police service, the center offers access to city and community services; information about local employment and volunteer opportunities; and public access to Bellevue OnLine, the city's computerized information network. Boards and commissions

Citizen volunteers are appointed by the Bellevue City Council to city boards and commissions. These citizens donate their time and expertise, lending assistance to the council on a variety of issues. Terms are varied in length; announcements of vacancies are publicized in the local media, libraries and Bellevue's neighborhood organizations.
